Product Focus 52 MoldMaking Technology April 2015 Cutting Tools Insert Cartridges Boost Face Mill Productivity Walter has introduced Blaxx FR751M and FR752M cartridges for its F2010 face mill, making the flexibility and performance of tangential indexable inserts available for adjustable face milling. For example, Walter Blaxx shoulder mills, which produce near-step-free 90-degree shoul- ders, are available for tool diameters ranging to 6.30". With the F2010 face mill equipped with an FR751M or FR752M cartridge, this technology can be applied to diameters ranging to 12.40". In addition, the indexable inserts can be adjusted axially with micrometer precision, enabling the F2010 to be used for fine finishing. The inserts come in two geometries: the L55T, a uni- versal geometry that can be used on most materials, and the L85T, which has a particularly sharp cutting edge for machining aluminum. The insert geometry deforms chips to a more narrow shape than the groove, and then the chips are flushed out by the coolant. A range of adapters enable use of the cutters regardless of the type or size of machin- ing center. Silent Tools adapt- ers are available for long- overhang machining. Internal coolant is delivered into the groove through a four-channel delivery solution from the adapters to the cutter. In addi- tion, WZB 10231 and 10233 solid carbide drills with inner coolant supply are now available in diameters ranging from 3 to 12 mm and in new lengths of 25xD and 30xD, making them especially suited for drilling of cooling holes. Meusburger US Inc. 704-280-8411 meusburger.com Boring Bars Feature Internal Coolant Channels Iscar has expanded its internal turning application range with positive and negative boring tools, and small inserts that accommodate small boring diameters. The tools are available with steel and solid carbide shank, and they each feature coolant channels directed precisely to the insert's cutting edges. Tools are available carrying positive (single-sided) ground EPGT and CCGT inserts. EPGT inserts offer a 75-degree geom- etry for a minimum bore diameter of 4.5 mm, and CCGT inserts feature an 80-degree geometry for minimum bore diameter of 5.0 mm. Shanks are available in diameters ranging from 4 to 7 mm. Tools also are available carrying negative (double-sided) ground WNGP and DNGP inserts. WNGP inserts offer an 80-degree geometry for a minimum bore diameter of 12 mm, and DNGP inserts feature a 55-degree geometry for minimum bore diameter of 13 mm. Shanks are available in diameters ranging from 10 to 20 mm for forward and back turning operations. Iscar Metals Inc. / 817-258-3200 / iscarmetals.com Line Includes Variety of Aluminum Cutting Inserts Millstar's aluminum cutter insert line features modular screw-on heads, shell milling cutters and end mill cutters. All the cutting inserts are available in side-clearance options. The line also boasts a variety of holding options, mul- tiple insert sizes, a 90-degree option and back-draft capability. According to the company, the inserts provide efficient material removal during roughing opera- tions and produce a high-quality finish. Millstar 586-573-9450 millstar.com Adapters Offer Improved Holding, Fast Tool Change Designed for accuracy and clearance at extended lengths, Techniks SFS12 Modular ShrinkFit adapters feature an internal drawbar design for improved holding power and faster tool changes. The adapters are avail- able for tool shanks ranging from 1 / 8 " to 1 / 2 " (3 to 12 mm). Well-suited for mold and die applications, SFS12 adapters are made from H13 tool steel for compatibility with fast-induction, heat-shrink machines like Techniks ShrinkPro, which provides tool changes in 3-5 sec. H13 steel also provides increased rigidity for extended tool life, the company says. Techniks / 317-803-8000 / techniksusa.com
