Product Focus Inspection/Measurement 52 MoldMaking Technology August 2015 Workstation Provides Mobile Access to Inspection Solutions The Creaform Shop-Floor Workstation from Ametek's Creaform division is designed to be a dedicated work and storage unit that offers mobile access to 3D scanning, probing and photogrammetry systems. The addition of the C-Track shopfloor stand also facilitates the mobility of C-Track dual-camera sensors around the part to be inspected. VXinspect is an intuitive 3D inspection software designed to be used in combination with the company's portable inspection solutions, which include HandyProbe, MetraScan 3D and HandyScan 3D. It includes tools for first article inspection (FAI) and quality control, and provides simple integration for contact (probing) and non-contact (scanning) measurement in a variety of manufacturing applications. The software supports rapid part-to-CAD inspections for pre- production adjustments and production part approval to con- trol critical part dimensions. It is fully integrated in VXelements, the company's 3D software plat- form and application suites. The collaborative robot con- cept is based on the operator and robot sharing a workspace and performing manufacturing tasks simultaneously, without the need for traditional robot safety fenc- es. The AutoScan self-teach pro- gramming capability allows the robot to be programmed quickly, without the need for offline soft- ware tools; each robot position is taught by manually dragging the robot to the next component scan position. All robot moves are automatically written to the part inspection program, allowing subsequent parts to be inspected automatically. AutoScan captures a 3D digital representation of the part, and reports complex form and surface deviations relative to the part's CAD model, together with discrete infor- mation about critical features such as holes, slots and studs. (LDI) offers an anti-reflection coating designed for increased accuracy during laser scanning. Helling 3D Scan Spray from Helling GmbH adheres thinly and uniformly to surfaces, eliminating the pooling and clumping that negatively impact scan data accuracy. Unlike traditional 3D scan sprays, this coating was formulated to deposit layers at a controlled thick- ness, with an average particle size of 2.8 microns. It also washes off easily with water. Laser Design Inc. / 952-884-9648 / laserdesign.com CMM Offers Measurement Accuracy to 0.28 Micron Mitutoyo America's latest Legex CNC coordinate measuring machine offers high-accuracy length measurement to 0.28 micron, making it well-suited for such applications as ultra-precise molds and components. Key features include minimized sources of static and dynamic error; a fixed-bridge structure with moving table; a base made from spheroidal graphite (ductile) cast iron in a sealed-structure design for high rigidity and vibration attenuating; a thermally symmetric structure featuring full covers around the main body to reduce the impact of ambient temperature changes; a vibration-dampening unit; and an air server that stabilizes the air tempera- ture to 20°C, ±0.1°C.
