Products 54 MoldMaking Technology August 2015 Tracking System Supports Tooling Project Collaboration ToolStats is now offering project timeline tracking, which enables users to create a customizable timeline for each tooling project to track activity throughout design, build and production. This makes it possible for OEMs, tier suppliers and tool shops to collaborate on tooling projects and share information quicker and easier, the company says Users can customize their own project timeline for each tool, track project milestones, set automated alerts and deadlines, and make real-time updates to share with other team members. Combining the tracking features with a QR code system and mobile app allows all of a tool's information and history to "travel" with the tool. They are said to offer faster setups, larger workholding capacity, greater flexibility and increased precision to handle a range of part configurations. The vices also feature quick-change jaws and fewer components for faster job change-overs. With a half-turn of a hex key, the stationary jaw lifts off the vise, then it resets and self-aligns quickly without special tools. A spring preload design ensures fast and easy loading of parts. With repeatable clamping to 0.0002", the rigid HDL vise delivers as much as 7,460 lbs of clamping force at 70 lbs of torque. It is designed on an 80,000- psi ductile iron body with precision-machined steel components, and has a 4" opening (6" vise) in each station using Kurt's standard hard-jaw system. The manual model easily converts to hydraulic operation using a conversion kit. The HD and HDL series are also available in Cluster Tower models that achieve workpiece immobility while damping cutter induced vibration. These tower designs are well-suited for horizontal or vertical machining centers with indexable tables. Older CNC or manual machines that do not have Ethernet ports can be monitored with the small, self-contained, DIN rail-mounted assembly. The FDI is comprised of off-the-shelf components and has eight digital inputs (24-V DC or 120-V AC) and two analog inputs (0-10-V DC). Each input is user-configurable based on specific use. An onboard adapter outputs a simple hierarchical data representation (SHDR) signal to the user's MTConnect agent. The Freedom eLOG software suite automatically extracts critical manufac- turing data to produce web-based reports and analytics on asset utilization, availability, performance, quality and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). It integrates seamlessly with enterprise resource planning, manufacturing exe- cution, and maintenance and quality business systems, and can be accessed via smartphone or tablet device. 5ME / 586-473-5070 / 5me.com Wireless DNC Unit Eliminates Need for Cabling In addition to a hard-wired USB direct numerical control unit, eNetDNC has added a wireless DNC system to its product offerings. These wireless USB units also can connect directly to the USB port on a machine tool while com- municating via the customer's wireless network. According to the company, the technology enables customers to take advantage of tools such as file revision control and surge protection without having to run expensive CAT5 cabling. Operators also can view a directory listing at the CNC control and transfer files with functionality that mimics a thumb drive. eNetDNC / 414-817-7070 / enetdnc.com
