Now you can discover how to improve tool room efficiency and morale using magnets and hydraulics, rather than brute strength to open, tip and close molds. Small-Tip Nozzles Suited for Edge-Gate Injection Thermoplay's DL-8B and DL-1B nozzles are designed for edge-gate injection when injection points are located in critical positions and the shape of the part to be molded requires use of a small tip. The DL-8B features an extended tip for double-sided injection. It is primarily used for internal injection of small plastic parts, plastic caps and extended containers. The heated part of the nozzle doesn't touch the surface of the part, preventing spots and defects from forming. The distance from the injec- tion point to the nozzle axis can be customized. The DL-1B nozzle also features an extended tip and can be used both for internal and external injection of parts. In addition to the distance from the injection point to the nozzle axis, its tip inclination also can be customized to as much as 55 degrees. The nozzle is available in diameters of 18, 22, 30 and 44 mm. According to the company, the process achieves shapes, paths and channel geometries impossible to obtain with conventional tooling. The process starts with 3D CAD modeling and finite element analysis to simulate optimal cooling channels that provide greater overall coverage, even distribution of cooling and the individual insert temperature control. Direct metal laser melting (DMLM) technology is said to be denser and stronger than direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), allowing for lighter-weight solutions with improved performance characteristics. Milacron says TruCool solutions allow for cycle time reduction, thermal control, improved quality, less scrap, increased flexibility in waterline designs, and the ability to visualize flow capabilities and thermal properties.
