Products 48 MoldMaking Technology November 2015 Tool Crib Software Helps Reduce Machine Downtime The TDM Tool Crib Module from TDM Systems is designed to organize a company's tools and production resources, including tools that are located off site. The software can map each physical tool crib and then integrate its use. It also is said to integrate easily in terms of tool lifecycle management into higher level systems. The module can map all of a crib system's upstream and downstream processes, connecting enterprise resource planning (ERP) and manufacturing exeution systems (MES), and supporting them with information about the actual status of production resources while recording the status and location for each tool. Tool assemblies can be dismantled and placed in storage for future use. The software can summarize the status of as many as eight tools under one identification number, facilitate resource-oriented planning, and eliminate bottlenecks or even machine downtimes due to lack of tools, the company says. The TDM Tool Crib Module can handle a variety of crib systems, including vending machines and vertical lift systems that enable shops to optimize floor space. Both types of systems require planning for where tools are located, the company points out. The machine's horizontal bearing ways are completely enclosed and protected, with no exposed cabling. High-resolution glass scales provide a thermal inert measuring accuracy, and open access to the measurement volume provides for ergonomic operator loading or applied automation. Although in a compact footprint, the CMM offers a measuring volume of 600 x 560 x 500 mm. Relocating it to a new point-of-inspection on the shop floor can be easily handled by a standard pallet truck. Integral anti-vibration leveling feet allow for rapid setup at the new station without the need for compressed air. The machine can be supplied with any of the full range of Renishaw touch- trigger or scanning probes. An integral probe- or styli-change rack is rigidly mounted to the rear of the machine structure so it does not erode the available measuring volume. Standard with the CMM is TouchDMIS measuring software, which features a one-touch "Program Launch" function that enables the machine to be operated in the shop, while part programs can be programmed for CAD either online or offline. Fully customizable inspection reports can be set up to monitor both indi- vidual part quality and process capability. Perceptron Inc./Coord3 Metrology / 800-333-7753 / perceptron.com
