82 MoldMaking Technology July 2015 Machining grobgroup.com Powerful 5-Axis Machining in a Compact Design The G350 is the smallest in GROB's popular G-Series of five-axis machines. Smart design packs the same workzone capabilities as other machines in a smaller footprint. GROB's original spindle design accommodates very long tools (365 mm/14.3") with no interfer- ence, even with large work pieces. The maximum part is a 600-mm (23.6") cylinder with 500 mm (19.7") in height. Rigid construction allows for efficient manufacturing of everything from plas- tic to titanium. An Intelligent Spindle for Ultra-Precise Tool Changes GROB introduces a solution for dealing with chips during a tool change. After an automatic tool change, sensors in the spindle nose detect any asymmetric deformation caused by chips at the tool fixing point. The information is trans- mitted via high frequency radio signals to the machine control, which then flags up the faulty tool change. Because this chip-in-spindle check is also cycle-time neutral and no alterations are required, this development is an excellent way for improving reliability during an automatic tool change. GROB's Most Flexible 5-Axis Machine Center The mid-size G550-T is one of the more versatile solutions in the G-Series, featuring turning capability for parts up to 900 mm in cylinder (Ø 35.4"). The high-speed table rotates at 800 rpm while compensating for uneven loads. Maximum part height is 730 mm (28.7"), and longest tool is 500 mm (19.6"). The GROB-designed table offers 225 degrees of rotation in the A axis and continuous 360 degrees in B axis. There are many standard and custom auto-mation solu- tions to choose from.
