It independently con- trols each valve pin by adjusting position with an accuracy of less than 0.1 mm, acceleration, velocity and stroke. Controllers are available in 4-, 6-, 8-, 10-, 12-, 14- and 16-zone configurations. Benefits include improved surface quality, high process repeatability, opti- mal flow balancing, reduced warpage, reduced clamping force and reduced part weight. The system was designed as a cost-efficient alternative for the production of small series or prototypes in two-cavity molds that had been using cold runner technology. To enable variable use of the system, a linear main manifold is combined with two lateral arms of the same length. A special pivot-joint allows the lateral arms to be positioned within a defined angular range at the connecting positions to the main manifold. The system offers flow channel diameters of 6 and 9 mm, and because standard nozzles are used, a range of gating options such as direct-tip gat- ing, gating with screw-on gate bushes or valve gating is available. They are particularly well-suited for use with the company's H4000 series hot runners. The nozzles are available in six sizes, ranging from 20- to 60-mm head diameters and melt channel diameters of 3.5 to 13 mm. Nozzle lengths range from 50 to 300 mm. Their modular design means nozzle tips, heaters and thermocouples can easily be replaced. In addition, the nozzles offer high resistance against abrasive wear, homogeneous temperature profiles and high compressive strength at temperatures higher than 300°C. A variety of different tip geometries and materials increases stall-point quality and heat conduction into the gate, the company says. They also offer improved thermal properties to prevent overheating and a cooling plate with removable plug for easier cleaning. The company's activeGate tool-based molding technologies employ posi- tion, pressure and temperature sensors within the hot runner and mold cavi- ties to provide independent melt-flow control at each individual gate.
