42 MoldMaking Technology January 2015 Product Focus Machining Horizontal Machining Center Offers 8,000-rpm Spindle Toyoda's redesigned FH630SX-i high-speed horizontal machining center features an 8,000-rpm spindle and an option for a 15,000-rpm high-torque spindle, as well as a rapid feed rate of 2,362 ipm (60 m/min.). Extended X, Y and Z-axis travels measure 41.3" x 35.4" x 41.3" (1,050 x 900 x 1,050 mm). The HMC also offers a pallet size of 24.8" x 24.8" (630 x 630 mm) with maxi- mum workload of 3,310 lb (1,500 kg). It includes a dual-ballscrew drive on the Y and Z axes, and a Meehanite cast iron base for improved rigidity and increased machining stability during heavy-duty cutting. Toyoda Machinery USA / 847-253-0340 / toyoda.com Multitasking Machine Incorporates Turning with Milling and Tapping Available from Yamazen, the compact Brother M140X1 multitasking machine incorporates turning with high- speed milling and tapping so that workpieces that previously were processed using separate machines can now be machined on a single unit, reducing handling time. A high-speed and high-output built-in, direct- drive motor offers maximum speed of 2,000 rpm for increased turning efficiency. Also available from Yamazen is the Takisawa TS-4000YS horizontal turning center, which features a heavy-duty twin spindle, 12-station power turret with Y axis, a 30-hp main spindle motor and a 10-hp milling motor. Box guideways are said to guarantee rigidity. Yamazen Inc. / 800-882-8558 / yamazen.com HMC Features Optional Turning Function The HBZ TR 80 T in Handtmann A-Punkt Automation GmbH's HBZ Trunnion series offers a turning option, further expanding applications for the five-axis HPC horizontal machining center line. The HMCs can handle workpieces rang- ing to 1,700 mm in diameter in applications in titanium, steel, aluminum and other materials, in both light and heavy-duty operations. The machines feature a compact and rigid design, and a double-bedded and driven NC-swivel-rotary-table. They also offer a range of spindles that can vary from a high-torque version with as much as 1,010 Nm of torque and an HSK 100 tool interface to a high-power spindle as fast as 30,000 rpm and featuring 156 kW for aluminum machining. Travel speeds as fast as 60 m/min., fast accelera- tions and a variety of automation solutions also provide high productivity and precision during dynamic five-axis machining, the company says.
