Product Focus 56 MoldMaking Technology November 2014 CAM Update Includes Automatic Rest Machining Detection The 2014 version of Open Mind Technologies' HyperMill CAM software includes a variety of enhancements designed to make NC program- ming more simple and secure, including a feature that allows for automatic detection of rest mate- rial areas where additional roughing is necessary. This automatic 3D rest machining feature then calculates additional roughing paths for these areas, resulting in increased process security and reduced machining times. HyperMill ShopViewer delivers information regarding the workpiece and CAM programs to the machine operator, enabling him or her to view and examine HyperCAD-S data in more detail directly on or next to the machine. This information includes the 3D model with the option of measur- ing individual dimensions, the CAM program, 3D clamping plans and tool data. The software also includes a range of new tool types, including reamers, lens cutters and bar- rel cutters in versions such as general, tapered and tangential. When converting from three- axis tool paths to five-axis tool paths, different tool types, such as barrel and woodruff cutters, can be used. HyperMill 2014 also includes new strategies for adjusting the tool to the machining model, enabling the selection of axial and lateral projections.
