Product Focus 44 MoldMaking Technology November 2014 Machining Center Performs 5-Axis Contouring Designed for simultaneous five-axis contouring of a range of complex parts, Doosan's FM 200/5AX Linear five-axis machining center is built on a rigid bridge-type base composed of a highly stable mineral composite material. According to the company, mineral castings absorb vibration at a higher rate than iron castings and are much more thermally stable, resulting in improved part surface finishes and increased tool life. Offering rapid traverse rates of 1,968.5 ipm and a cutting feed rate of 787 ipm, the machine's X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure 7.9" x 13.4" x 11.8". These axes are driven by high-precision linear motors that provide high accelerating and decelerating feed rates with little to no backlash. The fourth- and fifth- axis rotary tables are equipped with direct-drive motors to deliver matching levels of performance. Platten size is 7.9" in diameter with a capacity load of 33.1 lbs. The 19-hp spindle features an HSK E40 taper and achieves speeds of 45,000 rpm for minimized vibration and maximized stability. For added productivity, the machine uses a direct-drive, servo-driven, 24-tool automatic toolchanger capable of holding tools as large as 2" in diameter and as long as 7.1", and weighing as much as 2.2 lbs. Doosan Infracore Machine Tools / 973-618-2500 / doosanmachinetoolsUSA.com Compact Dual-Axis Rotary Table Suited for Small Machining Centers Haas' TRT100 dual-axis trunnion table is designed for high-speed, accurate positioning for even the smallest machining centers. At less than 20" wide and 13" deep, the table can fit into nearly any machining center or can be mounted on one end of a larger machine's table, freeing up the remainder for additional fixtures or vises. It also can be easily removed when not needed. Fast indexing speeds ensure short cycle times, and powerful brakes on both axes guarantee accuracy for 3+2 machining, Haas says. Brushless servomotors provide 42 foot-pounds of spindle torque on the tilt axis and 20 foot-pounds on the rotary axis, with indexing speeds of 1,000 degrees/sec. on the tilt axis and 1,950 degrees/sec. on the rotary axis. The trunnion provides ±120 degrees of tilt and 360 degrees of rotation to position parts to almost any angle for machining. The trunnion's precision-ground 100-mm platter features multiple bolt patterns and a precision through-bore for versatile fixturing, and will swing parts ranging to 8.4" in diameter. Maximum platter capacity is 20 lbs. A pair of user-configurable ports on the side of the trunnion table route air through the tilt axis to the rotary axis for operating pneumatic fixtures or other air- activated devices. A fully integrated fiber laser source offers high beam quality and reliable performance for many years, the company says. The system features a programmable four-axis CNC system controller, inte- grated computer with Windows operating software, integrated chiller, chamber exhaust with material filter capture and G-code programming software. FiberStar systems are well-suited for a range of applications, including tool and die components. LaserStar Technologies Corp. / 401-438-1500 / laserstar.net
